Days after the RSS asked the BJP to avoid bickering in public and function like a cohesive unit, senior BJP leader L K Advani on Tuesday delivered a subtle message to party leaders -- shed personal agenda and revive the BJP's 'party with a difference' image.
Although BJP chief Nitin Gadkari has been stressing on "nation first, party second and self last" slogan, internal tussle and differences over key issues persist. On several matters, the latest being the debate on caste-based census, the party has not been able to formulate a unified line and top leaders have been airing their differences in public.
Advani, who has been trying to project himself as an elderly statesman, used the birth anniversary of party ideologue Shyama Prasad Mookerjee to drive home the point to his colleagues. According to him, "Atal Bihari Vajpayee used to say we were a party with a difference. We all should strive towards achieving this aim,".
